Sosmix rolls (vegan sausage rolls)

Sosmix - reformulated and renamed as "Granose meat-free sausage mix" - now appears to be suitable for vegans again, after the company who bought Sosmix's manufacturers decided, for reasons best known to themselves, to add cow's milk to the recipe. The stock that is now appearing in shops no longer contains milk, but check the ingredients in case your particular shop is still using up the old (milk-containing) stock (Feb 09).

Another popular party dish. Much nicer than shop-bought sausage rolls and no-one ever notices they don't have meat in them!

1 x 500g block puff pastry (JusRol is vegan)
1 x 175g sachet Sosmix
Soya milk to glaze

Preheat the oven to 220°c.

Cut the block of pastry in half, roll each half out on a floured surface and leave to rest for 10 minutes or so. Make up the Sosmix with cold water according to the instructions on the pack.

Place the Sosmix in lines across the pastry, leaving enough pastry on either side to fold over into rolls and overlap slightly. Divide the pastry up and fold each section over the Sosmix, sealing the edges with a small amount of water or soya milk. Cut each line into sausage roll-sized segments.

Place on a baking sheet, glaze with soya milk and bake for 12-15 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and slightly crispy.
